Christmas 2009
Ski Trip 2009
The day after Christmas we loaded the van and headed on our annual family ski trip to Leadville, Colorado. This was going to be Alexa's very first trip in the car for that long (17 + hours). A lot of the people in the van were worried about this including her daddy. We left Sherman at 5 am and I was driving. We had gotten quite a bit of snow on Christmas Eve with most of it being west of us and had been warned of very bad roads. I drove as far as I felt comfortable and then mom took over in Saint Jo. We finally made it to Wichita Falls where we eat breakfast at 8:3o when we should have been there by 7. Very long trip but mom did a great job driving that part. We got breakfast and headed to Papaws house since he was snowed in! Dad, Kyle, and Mike ended up shoveling Papaws driveway and then we headed to Aunt Angela's and shoveled hers too! They were all very appreciative. When we left Wichita Daddy drove because we knew the roads were worse. We had 22 miles to get to Electra where we were told the roads were clear. It took us 1 1/2 hours to go that 22 miles and then bam clear roads! We saw over 150 cars in the ditch that morning! After that we had completely clear roads and eneded up stopping in Pueblo, Colorado for the night since we were so far behind schedule! Sunday we got to Leadville and everyone but me suited up to go to the mountain to ski half a day. I stayed at the house with Alexa and Jeff that day. Jeff, Alexa, and I did the grocery shopping so mom didn't have to that night and she seemed grateful for that!
Monday night at the house we played Jeff's new Star Trek Monopoly game that he got for Christmas. AnnMarie ended up winning and is still the chamption. Tuesday morning we all got up and daddy again didn't go skiing so Alexa got lucky and spent the day with Papa and her daddy! Jeff was sick so he wasn't even able to go snowmobiling. They again dropped us off at the mountain and then came for lunch. I fell on Tuesday pretty good and hurt my arm. I didn't ski too much after that but really enjoyed when I did ski. The weather was great this year. It would have been nice to have a little more snow.
Tuesday night after dinner we played Farkle and UNO. Those are always two fun games with our family! It is always nice to have family games when we go skiing! Wednesday morning we got up and got all packed and headed back to Texas. We like stopping in Amarillo to eat at the Big Texan but never like the wait so this year we got smart and made reservations. We made it back to Sherman at about 1:30 and Jeff, Alexa, and I went ahead and drove home to McKinney that night! It was one of those we are ready to be back in our own bed!!!
We had an awesome trip and Alexa did pretty well for such a long drive. She would only get fussy when she didn't want to go to sleep in the car. I'm ready for her to be able to go and learn to ski. She has to wait until she is 3 for that and then we will get her private lessons that year and then the next year she will be in Panda Patrol!!! I am going to add some pictures here at the end for your enjoyment!
